FLIPPED CLASSROOM AND VOCABULARY TEACHING

Hello everyone! How is it going? I hope everything is greatđź’“

This week's task was creating a vocabulary teaching video for a flipped EFL classroom.

What is Flipped Classroom?

Noo, this is not a flipped classroom:)

A flipped classroom is a method of using technology to make classrooms more engaging places to learn. Students are introduced to content at home and practice working through it at school using this method. Students watch the pre-recorded video at home and come back to school they apply the knowledge, do their homework, interact with their peers and ask more questions about the topic. Teachers motivate them and give feedback.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a flipped classroom?

Unlike the traditional method, technology-enhanced learning environments appeal to more senses, attracting more students' attention, making teaching enjoyable, and accelerating learning. Flipped classroom provides more learner-centered, active teaching, which helps to provide more effective teaching. In this method, students have control over their learning.

BUT,

  • It can be difficult for teachers to verify whether students are watching videos and learning the material.
  • Students who lack individual learning abilities are more likely to struggle during the learning process
  • The students may encounter difficulties when they study outside the classroom without interacting with the teacher and other students.
Consequently, we can say every method has both pros and cons.
For our assignment, I worked with Merve. First, we decided on which topic we are going to teach for the flipped classroom. After deciding that we picked the words and wrote the sentences according to the age of our students. We paid attention to the level of language we used in our video. To me, that was challenging because the language has no clear-cut boundaries it is not something like math. We tried our very best to come up with something really fun and pragmatic. We used Canva (as usual :) )to create our video because it is easy to navigate and has a lot of options! We also prepared an exercise to practice the words that we have taught in the teaching video. For this purpose we used wordwall

Here are the video and the exercise..Enjoy!

Thanks for reading my post. Until next time TAKE CARE!
