Today I am going to talk about augmented reality.

What is augmented reality?

We can define augmented reality (AR) as a technologically enriched version of the real world created through digital visual elements, audio, or other sensory stimulation.

Augmented reality in an EFL classroom

Teachers should become more technological oriented in their teaching methods as technology has become a way of life. With technology in the center of our daily life, why not reap the benefit of it? Augmented reality offers us a more interactive and collaborative learning environment. Students learn how to work together and become more communicative and productive. This kind of environment can boost their learning, promote their motivation, foster their interest and encourage them to learn a second language (In our case this would be English). In the classroom, they experience real-life situations with a click, sounds fun right? Less stress more achievement.

This week we were asked to do an augmented reality handout and an explanatory video that goes with it. My friend Merve and I worked on this project together. We decided to introduce Seville which has the most iconic landmarks in Spain. We used regular informative and 360-degree videos that we could find. Creating our handouts we used Canva (not a surprise since it has a lot of conveniences ). The most challenging part was to find the proper app to integrate our videos into it. After looking for many of them we decided on UniteAR . As it is new technology it is pretty hard to find a free and well-functioning app.
